The New Canoe is a half hour Aboriginal arts and cultural
television series independently produced by Aarrow Productions,
Inc.
The New Canoe is seen on The New VI in British Columbia, on CHUM
stations in Ontario, and on Bravo!, CHUMs national specialty
arts channel.
The series features contemporary and traditional Aboriginal artists,
musicians, dancers, authors, language specialists and others involved
in their culture.
On the air since 2001, The New Canoe has featured more than 75 Aboriginal
individuals and groups from Vancouver Island, British Columbia and
other parts of Canada.
The New Canoe's 2004 season focuses on First Nations communities
in British Columbia that are involved in preserving their culture
and developing arts, culture and eco-tourism activities and programs
in their territory such as cultural centres, art, dance and language
programs.
The 2004 season, hosted by Barbara Hager (Cree/Metis) and actor/violinist
Swil Kanim (Coast Salish), features visits to First Nations communities
throughout BC. Artist Rose Spahan (Coast Salish) will cover the
contemporary arts scene. Her segment, Aboriginal Expressions,
will showcase some of Canadas leading
artists and performers.
